Alliance of Baptists is a progressive Baptist Christian denomination. It was founded in 1987 as a liberal/progressive alternative to the more conservative Southern Baptist Convention. Mara Richards Bim is a writer, spiritual director and candidate for ordination at Royal Lane Baptist Church, an Alliance of Baptists church in Dallas.

Mara is the Dallas County Chair of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty’s Christians Against Christian Nationalism’s Congregational Outreach Committee. She is a Clemons Fellow at Baptist News Global where she writes on the intersection of religion and politics, with a particular focus on the threats posed by Christofascism.

Mara recently graduated from Southern Methodist University with the degree of Master of Divinity (MDiv) and a Certificate in Spiritual Direction. Before joining the fight to preserve American democratic values, she had a 20-year career as an award-winning theatre artist and was the founder of the nationally-acclaimed Cry Havoc Theater Company which operated in Dallas from 2014-2023.

In 2020 Mara received the Holloway Family Foundation’s Visionary Leadership Award and in 2021 she was named one of D Magazine’s “78 Women Changing the Face of Dallas.”

Mara is married to Brett Bim and they have a daughter in elementary school.

Rev. Paula Clayton Dempsey, Director of Partnership Relations, Alliance of Baptists, signed the "Ecumenical Declaration to Protect Welcome and Restore Hope" letter, a joint effort from leaders of the National Council of Churches and the Church World Service to condemn President Donald Trump's 2017 executive orders on refugee resettlement, which, according to the Declaration, "have been celebrated by those who use fear to perpetuate racism and xenophobia, which seriously erode shared values, constructive dialogue, and American leadership in the world.".
