Chuck Idelson
Charles (Chuck) Idelson is the Communications Director for the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, the nation's largest organization of direct care registered nurses with 80,000 members from California to Maine. [1]
People's Daily World
In 1986 Charles Idelson was a Staff Writer for the Communist Party USA newspaper People's Daily World[2]
Idelson was the author of two articles in the People's Daily World PDW, January 13, 1989, "Assail California move to cut family planning", San Francisco, p. 2; and co-authored with Danny Spector, "SANE/Freeze to honor King with drive for homeless", p. 3. He was also identified as a PDW "Staff Writer" on p. 9.
Chuck Idelson was listed as a "Staff Writer" for the PDW, Feb. 28, 1990, p. 12.
Communist Party reformer
In 1991 Chuck Idelson, Northern California was one of several hundred Communist Party USA membersto sign the a paper "An initiative to Unite and Renew the Party" - most signatories left the Party after the December 1991 conference to found Committees of Correspondence.[3]
California Nurses Association
In a Politico article about Kamala Harris, "A Political Star Rises in California: In a close race for attorney general, Kamala Harris has Dems gazing upward", by Alexander Burns, a Chuck Idelson was quoted about her race against Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley. (Harris is the current, 2010, San Francisco District Attorney). Idelson was identified as:
"a spokesman for the Democrat-friendly California Nurses Association."[4]
If this is the same Idelson who was a member of the CPUSA in the 1980's and early 90's, he would be another example of CPUSA members and former members who have moved into labor unions/associations, often as spokesmen.
