March for Science Logo

Template:TOCnestleft March for Science is a progressive advocacy organization, focused on securing taxpayer money for various initiatives. From their website:[1] "We hold the scientific community accountable for ensuring that science is diverse, inclusive, and accessible to all."

The Washington DC Event was co-organized by Earth Day Network and produced by Peter Shapiro and Jon Dindas.

History

From their website:[2] "The origin of the March for Science traces back to the morning of January 24th, 2017, when several independent conversations about a scientists’ march on Washington converged on social media. Hours later, the 'scientists’ march” had become the March for Science.

ScienceMag reported[3] that the social media users were Caroline Weinberg, Jonathan Berman, a postdoctoral fellow researching hypertension at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio; and Valorie Aquino, an anthropology Ph.D. student at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

The March for Science website claims that for the march in April 2017, "more than 1 million people in more than 600 locations across all seven continents joined together in the single largest event in support of science in history."
