The United States Department of Defense is a Cabinet department that deals with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government related directly to national security and the military.

The department was previously headed by Robert M Gates. Current Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III.

Brookings Institution

Between July 1, 2008–June 30, 2009, the Department of Defense contributed between $100,000–$249,999 to the Brookings Institution.[1]
