Labour Party Policy Council
In 1985, Maryan Street was elected onto the Labour Party Policy Council. She was described in the September 2 issue of the Tribune as one of the "strong anti-nuclear campaigners."
Others, who also happened to be of an equally left-wing bent who were voted onto the council included; Rob Campbell, Jim Anderton, Rex Jones and Helen Clark.
Exploiting Ernie Abbott murder
Within 30 mins of Ernie Abbott's bomb murder, Douglas attended a meeting in a hotel room in Wellington (later CTU headquarters) no bed in room. Meeting didn't discuss who was to blame, only how to take propaganda advantage of the killing. It was decided to blame "right wing" anti-union elements. In order to unify the labour movement & increase Labour's election chances. Present were Rob Campbell, Ken Douglas, Rex Jones, Richie Gillespie, John Van de Ven & possibly Steve O'Reilly.

Other helpers or contributors to “The Paper” included, Rona Bailey, Alick Shaw, Peter Franks, Terry Auld, Robert Reid, Lisa Sacksen (all future members of the Workers Communist League) future Air NZ board member Rob Campbell, future Race Relations Conciliator Joris de Bres, unionist Pat Kelly, Principal Family Court judge Peter Boshier, journalist Gyles Beckford, writer Tony Simpson and HART leader Trevor Richards.
