National Conference on Alternative State and Local Public Policies was an Institute for Policy Studies spinoff initiated in 1975. It brought together progressive legislators to "develop more equitable legislation." Its work is not carried out by the Cities for Progress project.[1]

In 1979 Don Rose, a mentor to Barack Obama's David Axelrod, served in the leadership of the CASLP.
