The Missouri Communist Party USA's 1996 Hershel Walker Peace and Justice Award was held in May at the Herman Park Community center.
Honorees were
- Eddie Mae Binion,
- Andrew McKenzie, president of the International Leather Goods Union and a vice president of the AFL-CIO
- Local 50 of the SEIU, accepted by president Don Rudd
Speakers were Communist Party USA official Jarvis Tyner and Bernie Hayes, a former talk show host, now a columnist with the St. Louis American.[1]
