Franklin A. Long
Presidential veto
In 1969 Franklin Long's appointment as head of the non-political National Science Foundation was vetoed on political grounds by President Nixon[1].
Long achieved national prominence in 1969 when he was nominated as director of the National Science Foundation . But the appointment was blocked by President Richard Nixon because of Long's stated opposition to the antiballistic missile system (ABM), then a highly controversial element of U.S. nuclear defense strategy[2].
Institute for Policy Studies
Franklin Long was a member[3]of the Institute for Policy Studies 20th Anniversary Committee, which organized an April 5, 1983, reception at the National Building Museum, Washington DC attended by approximately 1,000 IPS staffers and former staff.
