Mikhail Gvishiani was Head of Far East NKVD and the central Asian KGB.

Deportation of the Chechens

The three men who in 1944 ordered and oversaw the deportation of the entire Chechen nation were the ethnic Georgians highly positioned in Moscow: Colonel Mikhail Gvishiani of NKVD; chief of the Soviet secret police Lavrenti Beria; and Joseph Stalin.[1]
