In 1997 The Leftie was published by the Democratic Socialists of Central Ohio-a local of Democratic Socialists of America. Those who helped put together the december issue were Jim Wiley, Lisa Stephens (design and layout), George Boas, Phil Schick and Rob Lectka.

In the late 1990s Democratic Socialists of Central Ohio members included John Wallace, Bob Fitrakis, Simone Morgen, George Boas, Michael Smalz, Reg Dyck, Jim Wiley, Lisa Stephens Lectka, Cheryl Turk Hill, Glenn King was a former DSCO member.[1]
