Chris Hicks

Template:TOCnestleft Chris Hicks has been active in student and progressive politics at Wichita State University in the late 2000s as a leader in the Student Labor Action Project, Campus Progress, Political Science Club, and Young Democratic Socialists.[1]

He is Married to Lucero Castaneda Bugarin.[2]

Atlanta DSA convention

Young Democratic Socialists members Maria Svart, Nicole Iaquinto, Flavio Hickel, Jr., Chris Hicks and Alyssa Cundari (University of Miami) attended the Democratic Socialists of America National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia in November 2007;[3]

Wichita DSA

In March 2009 Rannfrid Thelle, a transplanted activist from Norway’s Labor Party and now a college teacher in Wichita, Kansas, decided to try to form a DSA local in Wichita. She contacted Chris Hicks, a YDS activist at Wichita State, who put her in touch with Stuart Elliott, a labor activist and longtime DSA member. A call to Frank Llewellyn provided the practical info to get off on the right track..[4]

Young Democratic Socialists

As of September 2009 Chris Hicks was Coalitions Coordinator of the Young Democratic Socialists[5].

SLAP

In 2011, Chris Hicks was national co-ordinator of the Student Labor Action Project.[6]

As coordinator, Chris Hicks helps student activists build relationships with local unions and community and faith-based groups and Jobs with Justice coalitions.

Hicks said:

SLAP supports the growing student movement for economic justice by making links between campus and community organizing, providing skills training to build lasting student organizations, and developing campaigns that win concrete victories for working families while breaking the poverty cycle by fighting for access to higher education and full and fair employment.
