Ring Lardner, Jr. was an identified member of the Communist Party USA during the HCUA "Hollywood" hearings of the 1940's, among other congressional reports/hearings, and was a member of the "Hollywood Ten" largely hostile witnesses before the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HCUA) (HUAC).

In the report on the Scientific and Cultural Conference for World Peace, 1949, both the names Ring Lardner and Ring Lardner, Jr. appear on various lists of CPUSA fronts and causes. It is safe to say that they are one and the same person (unless any evidence is found to show that Ring Lardner Jr's father was also a CPUSA front supporter).

There should be a book either on or by Lardner Jr. which will clarify this. KW will look for it.

Scientific and Cultural Conference for World Peace

Ring Lardner was a sponsor of the Scientific and Cultural Conference for World Peace which ran from March 25 - 27, 1949 in New York City. It was arranged by a Communist Party USA front organization known as the National Council of the Arts, Sciences, and Professions. The conference was a follow-up to a similar gathering, the strongly anti-America, pro-Soviet World Congress of Intellectuals which was held in Poland, August 25 - 28, 1948.[1]

Within this report are lists of many congressionally identified CPUSA fronts and causes, as well as those key Communists and sympathizers who supported them. Among these fronts/causes that Ring Lardner and Ring Lardner Jr. supported were:
