Social Justice History: "The People Speak" and "Passionate Commitments" Hosted by Oregon Socialist Renewal.

Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2 PM - 4 PM PST

Salem Public Library, Anderson Room B

The People Speak, inspired by Howard Zinn’s books, is a documentary film that uses dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries, and speeches of everyday Americans. The film gives voice to those who, by insisting on equality and justice, spoke up for social change throughout U.S. history and also illustrates the relevance of this to today’s society. We will view a short portion of the film. Passionate Commitments is a book telling the story of two twentieth-century American women whose love for each other fueled their work to create an egalitarian world. The author, Julia Allen, will talk about the subject and present a slide show.[2]
