Background
Norm Markel received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Chicago in 1960. He was Professor of Communication, Linguistics & Anthropology at the University of Florida from 1964-99. He is currently Professor Emeritus and resides in Decatur, Georgia. In 1975 he was elected the first president of the United Faculty of Florida (AFT/NEA), which represented faculty in all 10 state universities.
