Marc Brodine


Marc R. Brodine is chair of the Washington State Communist Party USA.

A former AFSCME member and local officer, he is currently an artist and guitar player. Marc Brodine writes on environmental issues and is the author of an extended essay on Marxist philosophy and the environment, titled Dialetics of Climate Change[1].

Early life and activism

Marc Brodine was born in St. Louis in 1952, the son of activists Virginia Brodine and Russell Brodine. In 1968, he moved to Seattle where he quickly became involved in party issues[2] In 1970, at the age of 18, he visited Cuba as part of the Venceremos Brigade.

Brodine was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War and worked in hospitals as an alternative to military service. During this time he became active in union Local 1488. He was also active in the Seattle Peoples Coalition for Peace and Justice, representing the Young Workers Liberation League. In 1980, he was campaign manager for Marion Kinney in her run for the state legislature. He succeeded B. J. Mangaoang as chair of the Communist Party in Washington and in July, 2001 he was elected to the National Committee at the party's 27th annual convention.

Second Venceremos Brigade

In 1970 Marc Brodine from St Louis, Missouri, was a member of the first Venceremos Brigade to Cuba.[3]

Washington State CP

In May 1995 The Communist Party USA newspaper Peoples Weekly World published a May day supplement. Included was a page of greetings to Will Parry, sending "warmest greetings" for his 75th Birthday. Almost all of the more than 100 endorsers listed, were identified members or supporters of the Washington State Communist Party USA.

In 2001 the Structure and Organization Convention Committee for the 27th National Convention of the Communist Party USA[5]included Marc Brodine (WA), Bill Davis (NY), Rosita Johnson (E. PA), Steve Noffke (MI), Brian Steinberg CT), Shelby Richardson (Ill) and Mark Almberg (ILL).

In 2010 Marc Brodine, Todd Tollefson (Seattle, WA) Hope Speaker Hyland (Washington), Maximillian Hyland (Tacoma, WA) (creator) were administrators of the Communist Party USA - Washington State Facebook page. [6]
