Gary Mansbach

Gary Mansbach is a lifelong socialist activist. He joined the Young Socialist Alliance in Newark, NJ in early 1969 before finishing high school. He says Mr. and Mrs. Hilderbrand were among the people who encouraged me as a high school activist."[1]

He lived with Jim Cannon for a year, working in the PhotoComp Press, while being active in the Socialist Workers Party (SWP) and the YSA in Los Angeles and New York.

He has lived in Birmingham, Alabama since late 1978. He said, "Classes by Tom Kerry et al. were inspiring to a radical kid just out of high school," referring to socialist summer school. He left the SWP in late 1980.[1]

In 1992 Gary Mansbach, Birmingham Peace Council, Birmingham Alabama, endorsed the Committees of Correspondence national conference Conference on Perspectives for Democracy and Socialism in the 90s held at Berkeley California July 17-19.[2]
