Ellen Friedman is the Executive Vice President at Tides.

Circa 1980 Ellen Friedman from Venice, California, was involved with the Californian New American Movement linked Socialist Feminist Network.[1]

Tides

Since 1987, Ellen Friedman has served as the Executive Vice President at Tides which is made up of the Tides Foundation, Tides Center, Tides Shared Spaces and other related organizations. She is responsible for organizational operations and integrated management of the Tides organizations. Ellen also serves as Managing Director of Tides Foundation. While at Tides she has designed grant programs and initiatives on issues ranging from environmental sustainability in the West, homeless prevention strategies, and rebuilding communities in post-conflict regions of the world to health equity, technology, and LGBT issues. She has worked on policy related to health information technology and domestic violence issues at the local, state, and national levels.[2]

Presidio

Friedman has served on the board of Presidio Hill School.[2]

Community Clinics Initiative

Friedman is the founder and was the first Managing Director of the Community Clinics Initiative, a partnership with Tides and The California Endowment working to strengthen community health centers throughout California.[2]

Affiliated Organizations

Friedman is a board member of the Open Square Foundation, Women in Philanthropy, the Jewish Funders Network, the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, the Family Violence Prevention Fund where she was also Founding Board Chair from 1987 to 1992. She served as Board Treasurer for the New Field Foundation from 2004 - 2010, is an advisory board member of Mesa Refuge, a retreat for environmental writers and has served on the board of the 3 Guineas Fund.[2]

She was Executive Director of Sojourn Shelter, one of the first shelters for battered women and their children in Los Angeles and served as a program officer at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation in Los Angeles, where she focused and published on topics including K-12 public education, runaway youth, domestic violence, and spirituality and philanthropy.[2]

National Leading From the Inside Out Alum

Ellen Friedman, Executive Director, Compton Foundation, Inc., was a 2009 Rockwood Leadership Institute National Leading From the Inside Out Alum.[3]
