Statement on Anti Blackness in the DSA

Statement on Anti Blackness in the DSA was released in February 2021:

We as the AfroSocialist and Socialists of Color Caucus stand in solidarity with the Black woman in DSA North Texas who was wrongfully suspended by DSA North Texas Co-chairs. This action by the DSA North Texas Co-chairs is racist and in particular anti-Black. This is not an isolated incident of racism but represents a pattern of anti-black and white supremacist actions within DSA which must be acknowledged, held accountable and systematically rooted out. There is a pattern of anti-black behavior that stems from the founding of DSA North Texas that has led to each generation of Co-chairs either perpetuating or being complicit in anti-black racism.

DAVID QUATTROCCHI Running for: Steering Committee at-large

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH DSA-LA? Just over 2 years WHAT ABOUT DSA MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN? I joined DSA because I was glad to have a found an organization actively supporting and fighting for so many political causes I believed in.

WHAT COMMITTEES, WORKING GROUPS, OR ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN WITHIN DSA-LA? TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE. My "home" committee is Housing & Homelessness (H&H). The breadth of causes we tackle in our beloved group is inspiring: documenting police sweeps on our unhoused neighbors which has resulted in a pending lawsuit against Mayor Garrett and his sanitation thugs; fighting with LA Tenants Union to help organize tenants association against evictions, canvass relentlessly for Proposition 10 and other housing legislation, and general battles against developers and their mission to gentrify every last neighborhood in L.A.; the culmination of Street Watch LA, a project born from Los Angeles Community Action Network and developed by so many dedicated H&H members to document LAPD stealing possessions from unhoused tenants under the guide of City Ordinance 56.11. I've also been New Member Liaison to the committee since I can remember. Through H&H, I've also joined the Nølympics working group, which tackles all the work H&H does with the end goal of stopping the Olympics from docking in our town. I have also organized with Membership Committee and Immigration Justice in the past.
