Background

On September 14, 2018, danah boyd published "a crib of a talk that Data & Society Founder and President danah boyd gave at the Online News Association conference in Austin, Texas on September 13, 2018."[2] In part, danah boyd criticizes those who allow extremists i.e. conservatives, who she refers to as "media manipulators" to have a voice claiming in part that in doing so, "fringe groups" are empowered to "spread conspiratorial and hateful messages under their false flag of conservatism".
