The Communist League is a New Zealand Communist party. The party was founded in 1969 by students from Victoria University of Wellington, and was originally named the Socialist Action League.[1]

The Communist League distributes the socialist/communist weekly newspaper, The Militant in New Zealand.[2]

The following is a statement from a 2008 press release by the Communist League:[3]

"The candidates and their supporters put forward a programme for working people to defend their interests in face of the growing world financial crisis and unfolding recession. They champion union fights and struggles in defence of democratic rights.
The socialist candidates demand the immediate withdrawal of all New Zealand armed forces and police from Afghanistan, East Timor, the Solomon Islands and everywhere else they are stationed. They call for an end to the New Zealand government’s sanctions on Fiji."
