2019 DSA-LA National Convention Delegates Candidates
DSA-LA has 47 delegate spots available and have received 69 candidate submissions. Due to the large number of candidates and slots, this ballot is using Approval Voting rather than block voting: vote for as many candidates as you feel comfortable representing DSA-LA at the convention. Voting will close on June 15th at 11:59pm. Should delegates be unable to attend the convention for any reason, they will be replaced by delegate alternates in order of votes.
Candidates included Charles Du.

CHARLES DU Running for: Steering Committee at-large
WHAT CITY OR NEIGHBORHOOD ARE YOU IN? Koreatown
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH DSA-LA? I’ve been in DSA since right after the 2016 election. WHAT ABOUT DSA MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN? I believe that in the current context, the path forward is through a mass movement centered in the working class. I do my best to contribute to that effort through my work in the labor movement as a staff attorney for UNITE HERE Local 11, the hospitality workers’ union. But while building labor is crucial, robust and independent organizing around socialism is also necessary to push labor towards class demands and greater militancy.
DSA was the natural spot for me because it’s non-sectarian and it’s where the energy and the people were rushing to after Trump’s election. I think we’ve already made a huge impact and we’re only going to grow as more and more people see that it’s actually possible to win.
WHAT COMMITTEES, WORKING GROUPS, OR ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN WITHIN DSA-LA? TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE. I volunteered to be an ombudsperson as part of the conflict resolution team for the past year because I wanted to help ensure that internal conflicts don’t get in the way of the important work we’re doing as the DSA chapter in the second largest city in the country.
I’ve also been involved in the Labor and Electoral Politics committees. In Labor, I’ve been one of the DSA liaisons to the Fair Workweek campaign spearheaded by the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, and have been involved in labor solidarity (as staff attorney at UNITE HERE Local 11 I’ve helped coordinate actions between the union and DSA, including an amazingly successful one recently organized by other members of the Labor Committee). My Electoral Politics participation has been phone banks and canvassing.
