Abraham Lincoln School
Faculty members were Morris Backall, Michael Baker, Frank Marshall Davis, Horace Davis, David Englestein, Morton Goldsholl, Pat Hoverder, Alfonso Iannelli, Leon Katzen, Ludwig Kruhe, Herschel Meyer, Henry Noyes, William L. Patterson, Fred Ptashne, Eleanore Redwin, Boris M. Revsine, Frank Sokolik, William Rose, Herman Schendel, Bernice Targ and Morris Topchevsky.
A South Side annex to the school was is located at 4448 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago. Dr. Walter S. Neff was director. Instructors included Albert George, Charlie Mitchell, Lester Fox, Geraldyne Lightfoot, Ishmael Flory, David Englestein, Irving Herman, Earl Durham, Claude Lightfoot and Walter Miller.
US-China Peoples Friendship Association
In the 1980s Fred Ptashne, as chapter president, was a leader of the Minnesota Chapter of the US-China Peoples Friendship Association-he and Mildred Ptashne were a driving force in the establishment of the Minnesota - Shaanxi sister relationship.
- USCPFA is an all volunteer group that was founded in 1974 as a national organization with a mission of working on people-to-people diplomacy between the people of the US and the people of China. The Minnesota Chapter of USCPFA was the driving force that brought about the sister relationship between Minnesota and Shaanxi in the early 1980s.
USCPFA-MN has had "many wonderful members who worked tirelessly over many years to foster, create, and sustain this relationship": Joyce Hsaio & C.C. Hsiao, Fred Ptashne & Mildred Ptashne, Bill Kirchner and Garnett Kirchner, Barbara Harrison, past President of USCPFA National, Fred Hsaio & Jennie Hsiao, C.J. Liu, Ming Tchou and Jim Tchou, Jolie Klapmeier, Howard Knutson, Larry Coleman, and Charles Petersen.
On the China side, "we recognize Ms. Liu Xianlian’s long-standing friendship with uand are grateful for the support from her and the entire staff of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in working with USCPFA-MN to promote the sister relationship.
